Getting started with Quickbooks online was easy. No credit card was required for the free trial, and registering was simple. During registration a chat window popped up offering help with questions. The software is web-based, so no download was required. It was easy to find help and information on the site.

I recommend this for all small businesses trying to do accounting themselves and save money!

Quickbooks Online Review for New Business Owner

My engineering consulting business outgrew a simple spreadsheet for book keeping and our accountant advised Quickbooks. Using Quickbooks online made sense as our data is backed up, remotely available and we can access from a variety of operating systems. Within minutes we had set up our business and granted our accountant access. It took about a business day to import our bank records and retroactively set up customers and invoices.

Before I purchased, I called to confirm some features and the pre-sales support was great. I haven't used post-sales customer service but if it is similar I'll be in good hands.

Overall the web-software performed as advertised and is priced fairly.

Pros: Largely intuitive, esp. with bank records. 6 months of records entered in a few days. Our accountant was able to access and correct expense categories during tax preparation.

Cons: As our business is based on billed services not sale of goods, some of the data entry methods were overly complex or confusing.

Quickbooks Online Review

I have loved using QuickBooks Online for my small business. We have employees running credit cards from multiple locations and we can all enter customer information into the same program at the same time even though we are more than 100 miles away from each other.

The program is relatively user friendly and we have therefore required minimal amounts of customer support. There have been some updates in the past year that have actually made it more difficult to give customers refunds to the credit cards. You have to follow through the help buttons to get to the proper page and I haven't found any shortcuts for this which is a bit frustrating because it used to be much simpler.

Overall the fact that we can have multiple users enter information and run credit cards directly through QBO makes this software incredibly valuable to our business. It has saved us significant time on our accounting and improved the accuracy of our records.

QuickBooks Online Review: It is a Dynamic Solution

Used Quickbooks Online for two businesses - one with about $17 million in revenue and the other with about $100K in revenue. The key to a Quickbooks implementation is designing the appropriate chart of accounts for the expected reporting needs. The chart of accounts for the larger business was extensive and very granular since profitability by customer was a key driver and it also captured a significant amount of the reporting needs for our audited financial statements.

The setup was very user friendly and I did not have to use Customer Support at any time, nor did we use any external designers or developers since their ideas were too simplistic and would have resulted in a less dynamic/useful G/L..

It was very easy to customize since the bulk of the customization was the chart of accounts. A key driver in being happy with this G/L (or any G/L) is to make sure the text field is consistently populated so that exporting/sorting data is a snap. For example, always start the text field with the nature of the expense or a "sortable" identifier (rather than the month of the transaction - which a lot of people like to do). The combo of the above two strategies results in amazing synergies and dynamics that is truly incredible for such a low cost product. No other apps were integrated. Our payroll provider (ADP) was able to create the account level detail that we required to easily manually post the payroll. I love the online functionality for the small business because there is a single owner who is not IT, the access is world-wide, and the credit card feature can be activated for an additional fee. Also, invoices can be exported and emailed very easily. These are the features that we use most and they are very satisfactory.
