Easy to use; but lacks some basic capabilities

We trialed Zoho, SugarCRM, Soffront and considered several others. Sugar got the nod because it had Japanese interface and stored Japanese characters. We chose the SugarCRM Professional cloud version to simplify installation and had a basic customization done by SugarCRM.

The system is easy to use and easy to customize within its limits. And, it has been reliable. So, if you can accept its limitations, it's a good choice.

But, we already have nearly 20 bug fixes pending as "Enhancement Requests". Such simple, basic items as being able to sort on more than 1 column, being able to specify column widths, being able to enter rich text, or even subscripts, are all enhancements in their view. Easy-to-learn quickly gives way to too-limiting. For instance, Windows Notepad editor is easy to learn compared to MS Word editor. SugarCRM is closer to Notepad, but prettier.

Perhaps the inhouse version and a support staff that will change the PHP and Javascript "open source" allows some companies to overcome these limitations. But, as an out-of-the-box solution, this tool has quickly demonstrated a shocking lack of flexibility and depth. Soffront would have been a better choice for us.
