| The iTalend product was used to build a data mart for marketing analytics. At the time of the project conception, iTalend was at version 2, so we were a bit of an early adopter. However, it gave us the tools we need to perform most of the necessary file and data transformations. We have stayed with the product through version 4.2 at which point the project was completed. Some pros of the production include: great variety of connectors for files and databases, great support for mySQL and other open source DBs, ability to write custom Java code for specific use cases if necessary. On the downside, the production documentation was (and continues to be) really bad. The "flow" model that the product uses is difficult to grasp and does not seem consistent at times. The central component for some transforms (the tMap component) seems to be limited from a resource perspective. Given all of that, I was generally pretty pleased with the community editions. Had we been in a true multi-developer environment, we might have gone to the enterprise edition for the repository, but couldn't justify the money for it. The product seems to have really taken off in Europe, but hasn't met with much mainstream acceptance in the U.S. It appears that Kettle (Pentaho) may be more popular in the U.S. | |

| I've used iTalend Open studio to develop several database connector integrations between oracle, and SQL Server. It's a very powerful tool for building custom integrations in a way unlike any other tool I have used. The resultant product is small and tight and can be deployed easily on a variety of platforms. I love the iTalend GUI and self documenting nature of the products I build with it. They are easy to maintain and explain to analysts without any extra work. Talend's other products are very promising, and I am certain they will be a powerful player in this market in the future. | |
I Would Need To Look For Web Front End Development or BI Screens Somwhere Outside of The Product |

| Talend has used all open source tools and standardized it for use towards data management only. I stress data management because they do not do any web front end development or BI screens. You will have to look else where for all of that. Setup is easy (free download of Open Studio) and the ETL process, data Quality process is all pretty straight forward and easy. | |
