Description:

LotusLive is a powerful web conference service with a wide array of features. The cost is fairly reasonable, and very little training is needed to use the solution. Technical support is top-notch.  The only real issue with the service is that people have to download a file (called a plug-in) in order to attend the conference, but this only has to be done once.

We use IBM SmartCloud which has email, LotusLive meeting and collaboration capability. It's easy to use and clients have no issues with any of the technology. We don't have much developer app, but do use integration such as Skype, TungleMe in the app. I'm extremely satisfied with their service. The customer service respond very quickly in email and follow up after the service.

Smart Cloud for Social Business

Essentially Lotus Meeting is a cut down version of Lotus Engage. Engage provides tools for hosting web conferences, instant messaging, publishing project information, managing projects and collaborating on work. Meeting provides the same conferencing tools, but without the extra project management and instant messaging integration. The meeting functionality allows a presenter to share their desktop with all the participants and easily pass control to them. A standard subscription provides support for up to 15 participants, but with add-ons this can be upgraded to 1,000. One of the main ideas behind Engage is to try and integrate social networking, instant messaging and online collaboration into one package. This makes it a useful tool for keeping track of business contacts and easily sharing ideas and working together on projects. Contacts don't have to be from within your own company and Engage provides features for allowing anyone into your online meetings. Both Lotus Meeting and Engage provide support for text chat style communication during meetings. Presenters can broadcast audio and video from a webcam, but must relinquish control to a participant to allow someone else to broadcast. It might have been useful to include VOIP support or provide an additional audio conferencing facility, but if you want this you have to provide you own solution. IBM products are usually thought of as some of the most reliable in the industry and Lotus Live is no exception. Everything worked perfectly in our tests and we had no problem figuring out how the different features work. Security is also not an issue as all communications are encrypted using SSL technology. IBM Lotus Live provides some good tools for web conferencing, but they do lack the facility for audio conferencing within meetings. This makes them more suited towards giving presentations online rather than fully interactive meetings. The extra features Engage provides for managing projects and contacts online can be very useful for some businesses, but are perhaps not for everyone. Free trials of most of the Live products are available so that you can test out the features before buying.

LotusLive is a collaborative suite of services that provides cost effective web conferencing and collaborative capabilities. It provides screen sharing, side chat, session recording, moderator controls, and works across platforms, including mobile devices. The tools integrate very well with third-party services and the service is quite reliable. The amount of training needed to use LotusLive meetings is minimal at best and the ability to have ad hoc meetings on an as-needed basis is extremely helpful. The reporting capabilities for moderators is also quite nice and helpful for later tracking.

LotusLive Meetings

Weve been using LotusLive Engage for over a year now (which includes LotusLive Meetings) for online meetings with our clients to gather requirements, give software demos, and for gathering user feedback.

Weve been very happy with the service. Our meeting participants have reported snappy response time even over slower connections and have reported no issues with participating in the meetings, or in accessing through strict company firewalls. We did encounter a couple of instances early on where the service was unavailable for short periods of time and the customer support staff was responsive, friendly, and helpful.

We have customized our account with our logo, and preferred color scheme which was easy and straight forward. We primarily use the screen sharing feature to demo software under development for our clients and it seems to work well.

A great product

The setup took about 15 mins. I had an issue as I have more then one IBM id and customer support had it straightened out by the next business day which, I think is very good as I have multiple IDs as I am an IBM business partner and have IDs for supporting my clients and for Technical support.

The branding is good enough as I dont find that customizing is a major feature needed by my clients. The feature set for LL is perfect for inter and intra company usage and performs well on our current equipment. We use meeting server, Connections, Quickr and iNotes and all meet our requirements. I would like to see Symphony added, as well as More templates for Quickr/Connections and Notes Databases.

Overall for a small business its perfect and low cost. For call centers/browser based computers and for all but the most advanced users it has all the features that are needed, It handles all the file imports and exports flawlessly and with producing pdfs it solves the software type/version issues.

I hope to see more document/archiving/records management features in the future as that would provide a one stop shop for our documents/records.
